This is one of the sources suggesting the recasting of Peter Sallis as the voice of Wallace. However, in Peter Sallis’s own autobiography he doesn’t once mention any attempt at a recasting.
Nick Park Interview (BBC - 2005)
In reference to the prior point about recasting Peter Sallis, Nick Park suggests Jeffrey Katzenberg would not have wanted to replace his voice. So from this statement, I conclude that the suggestion to replace Sallis did not come from Katzenberg himself.
“Well, when we first sold the Wallace and Gromit shorts to America, there were people who suggested that we get rid of the strange British accents and put clear American voices on them, and we held out. I think Jeffrey would agree that anybody who did that would be shooting themselves in the foot. Since then we've had so much response from Americans that like the voices.”
